In just a few decades after they arrived in the United States, Mennonite Brethren founded Tabor College in 1908 in Hillsboro, Kan. As Mennonite Brethren moved to other parts of western North America in the next few years, they took an interest in education. . In 1941, the Mennonite Church in the Pacific established a “standing school committee” to consider the establishment of a post-secondary school. In 1944, the Pacific Bible College opened a large residence on the Vanes Avenue in Fresno with 28 students. The school quickly lost its original campus and moved to a former YWCA building in downtown Fresno in 1946. The student body reached the peak of 178 students in the 1948-1949 school year.
