Founded in 1818, Dalhousie has been providing exceptional education for over 200 years. With the addition of the Agricultural Park in 2012, our business scope will continue to expand beyond Halifax. In the early 19th century, the ninth Dalhousi Earl and the Deputy Governor of Nova Scotia, George Ramsay, wanted to establish Halifax College, open to all, whether it was class or faith. The spoils of war helped realize his dreams. During the war of 1812, a small port in Maine, Kastin, was used as a base by the United States, and these individuals harassed ships on the East Coast. The United Kingdom sent a Royal Navy from Halifax to capture Castine and turn it into a customs port of entry. After the war, the Navy returned to Halifax with the tariff charged. Lord Dalhousie invested £7,000 in this treasure as a donation to the college and set aside £3,000 for its construction.
